Dubai Launches Ejari Awareness Campaign to Reduce Rental Disputes

Dubai

Dubai has taken a proactive step to strengthen transparency and stability in its rental market with the launch of a new Ejari public awareness campaign by the Dubai Land Department (DLD). The initiative aims to reduce rental disputes by helping tenants, landlords, and real estate brokers better understand Ejari-related procedures and legal obligations.

Addressing Common Causes of Rental Disputes

With Dubai’s rental market experiencing strong demand and high tenant turnover, misunderstandings around rental registration, renewal timelines, and rent increases have become increasingly common. According to DLD, many disputes arise not from deliberate non-compliance, but from a lack of clarity around how the Ejari system works.

The new campaign is designed to address these gaps by presenting clear, simplified guidance on frequently asked questions related to tenancy contracts.

What the Ejari Awareness Campaign Covers

The campaign focuses on educating market participants on key aspects of the Ejari system, including:

  • How to register and cancel Ejari contracts
  • Steps to download Ejari certificates
  • How rental increase percentages are calculated in line with the RERA Rental Index
  • Legal notification procedures between tenants and landlords
  • Rules governing non-renewal and lease termination

By clarifying these areas, DLD aims to ensure that all parties understand their rights and responsibilities under Dubai’s rental laws.

Improving Market Transparency and Efficiency

Ejari registration is mandatory in Dubai and is required to access essential services such as utility connections and residency-related processes. DLD noted that confusion around registration timelines and renewal requirements has been one of the most frequent issues raised by residents.

Through this initiative, the department seeks to reduce repeated inquiries and disputes by providing accurate, up-to-date information directly through official channels. The content is being distributed across DLD’s website, social media platforms, and digital awareness materials, including visual and audio formats, making it accessible to a wider audience, particularly first-time renters.

Supporting Stability in Dubai’s Rental Market

Officials said the awareness drive aligns with broader goals of improving customer experience, reinforcing regulatory compliance, and promoting long-term stability in Dubai’s real estate sector. By standardising knowledge of tenancy processes, the campaign is expected to ease pressure on dispute resolution mechanisms and foster healthier landlord tenant relationships.

A Preventive, Education-Driven Approach

Rather than introducing new regulations, Dubai’s Ejari awareness push focuses on prevention through education. As rental demand remains strong, clear guidance on contract registration, rent adjustments, and legal procedures is increasingly critical to maintaining confidence in the market.

For businesses, investors, and residents alike, the initiative reflects Dubai’s continued commitment to creating a transparent, well-regulated, and investor-friendly property environment.
