Food Processing Assets in Abu Dhabi and Overseas: AD Ports Group Signs Strategic MoU

Food Processing Assets

AD Ports Group has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BUA Group and MAIR Group to assess the feasibility of establishing integrated food processing assets in Abu Dhabi and selected overseas locations.

The non-binding agreement initiates a structured evaluation process focused on the development of large-scale food processing infrastructure, including sugar refining and edible oil production facilities, alongside complementary assets in grains, pulses, and animal feed.

Comprehensive Feasibility Assessment at the Core

At the heart of the MoU is a detailed feasibility study to determine the commercial, operational, and strategic viability of establishing world-class food processing facilities both within Abu Dhabi and in carefully selected international markets.

The assessment will examine:

  • Technical and infrastructure requirements
  • Supply chain integration and raw material sourcing
  • Trade flow optimisation across regional and global corridors
  • Capital investment models and financial structuring
  • Market demand projections and export potential
  • Sustainability standards and regulatory compliance

By evaluating opportunities domestically and internationally, the partners aim to design an integrated processing platform capable of enhancing efficiency, strengthening supply security, and capturing value across multiple points in the agri-commodity chain.

Advancing Abu Dhabi’s Industrial and Food Security Strategy

The proposed initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader economic diversification and industrial growth agenda. Establishing advanced food processing assets within the emirate would expand local value-added manufacturing, reinforce food security resilience, and support downstream trade and export activities.

AD Ports Group’s extensive logistics and port infrastructure is expected to play a central role in enabling seamless import of raw materials and export of finished products. The collaboration with BUA Group and MAIR Group brings complementary agribusiness capabilities, global sourcing networks, and commodity market expertise.

Simultaneously, exploring selected overseas locations offers strategic advantages in proximity to agricultural production zones, cost efficiencies, and expanded access to high-growth markets. This dual-location approach aims to create a balanced, resilient processing network capable of mitigating supply chain disruptions.

Building a Scalable Global Agri-Food Platform

If deemed commercially viable, the initiative could lead to the development of integrated processing complexes designed to serve regional and international markets. Such facilities would be structured to achieve economies of scale, operational efficiency, and competitive positioning in global food commodity trade.

While the MoU remains exploratory and non-binding, it reflects strong strategic alignment among the participating entities to pursue opportunities that generate long-term economic value, enhance trade competitiveness, and contribute to a more sustainable global food ecosystem.

Further updates are expected following the completion of feasibility studies and project structuring phases.
